Analysis:

Both the teams have announced a 13 man squad for this game. Let’s dissect the players and their form.

20-Dec-18 - Melbourne Renegades v Perth Scorchers - Bg Bash League 2018 - Free Cricket Betting Tips - Melbourne Renegades Squad

Renegades have announced a squad with 4 batsmen 5 all-rounders and 4 bowlers. The captain, Tom Cooper is in great form with 3 centuries and a fifty in Sheffield Shield during the past three months. His lowest SR while scoring a century is 72. This shows his brilliant touch with aggressive intent. Their wicket keeper recruit Harper has shown good form U23 circuit, but he hasn’t done anything substantially in BBL yet. Ludeman and White are known for their anchoring roles than their hitting strength. These two haven’t played much this year. Also they endured a poor run at the closing stage of BBL’17.

The 5 all-rounder with Renegades are Christian, Wildermuth, Sutherland, Kelvin Smith and Nabi. There isn’t much known about Kelvin Smith who was part of Adelaide Strikers previously. Wildermuth and Sutherland have bowled decently in Sheffield shield matches. But their batting hasn’t produced noteworthy performances. The Afghanistan international Nabi is undergoing a bad patch with the bat, but his bowling remains economical as usual. Dan Christian has rediscovered his form again. He scored a blistering 19 ball 52 in the recently concluded Mzansi Super League. Even though he is not bowling his full quota of 4 overs he has remained economical and has produced crucial breakthroughs while bowling.

20-Dec-18 - Melbourne Renegades v Perth Scorchers - Bg Bash League 2018 - Free Cricket Betting Tips - Perth Scorchers Squad

Looking at the Scorchers, they have announced a 5 batsman, 3 all-rounder, 5 bowler squad. The problem that I see with their batting is, in all the 8 people who can bat 6 are out of form. Except Turner all other batsmen and all-rounders have some sort of issue. Klinger’s returns have been diminishing (Career Batting Average – 36, 2018 Average – 27; Career SR – 124, 2018 SR -114). Cartwright has been throwing away the starts he is getting. While his career SR is not great, his recent records also show he is running through a lean patch of form. Whiteman has been very inconsistent through out his T20 career. His career average and SR are too low for a specialist batsman.

Mitch Marsh is coming through a long injury lay-off. His recent form is unknown. Agar has provided useful contributions with the bat lower down the order, but he is costly with the ball this year. David Willey had a superb Natwest T20 Blast. After that series his batting and bowling form has evaporated into thin air.

Scorchers always had a good bowling unit. Renegades always assembled a costly bowling unit. This year too nothing much has changed.

I would be taking a close look into toss as Perth have a 84% win ratio while winning the toss and chasing. Also Renegades are poor in defending totals.

8 games and 8 defeats for Renegades against Scorchers. Not sure if this is some Premier T20 League record. Will Perth scorch through to their 9th win?
